The Planks of the Faith: Remembering for Re-Membering, Part 1
The Training Table is set for Christians who are committed to “running the good race” (1 Corinthians 9:26; 2 Timothy 4:7) and need a regular diet of great-for-the-heart, spirit, and living life… reformation, revival, and constructive revolution:
Reformation… we seek to abide by and serve up the true truth of the Bible.
Revival… we seek to model biblical Christians living in word and deed.
Constructive Revolution… we seek to spread the true gospel right where God has planted us with urgency, compassion, and radical self-abandonment.
For the next several meals at the Training Table we will be chowing down on “the planks of the faith”. Now, unless we’re termites, that doesn’t sound very appetizing does it?
Put another way, it is indeed a spiritual feast of the heart for the Christian to chew on and ingest the basic tenets of the faith on a regular basis. The upcoming meals will be compact, meaty, nourishing, and well (very well…) worth our meditating on until such truths are sunk deep, deep, deep into our heart, emotions, and actions.
Remembering the foundational truths of doctrine is not only good for the soul, but it greatly aids the blessed act of “re-membering the elect” (Matthew 22:14; Romans 8:28-30; Ephesians 1:2-6; Colossians 3:12), the Body of Christ, as we are all counted as most blessed members, sons and daughters, of God’s family.
Remembering always reignites, aligns, re-roots, blesses… re-membering!
Please Note: In today’s fishbowl of relativism (the “all truth is relative” cesspool), it is more important than it ever has been that we regularly remind ourselves of the basics, the genuine artciles, of our faith.
Culturally, we have sown the wind, and we are now reaping the whirlwind BIG TIME: Please make double-darn sure that the roots of your faith are cared for, sunk deep, and nourished by recalling and passing along to others “the basic planks of the faith”!
Otherwise, it is very likely our witness—the light and salt we’ve been saved to be and do in a dark and decaying world—will be blown away by the whirlwinds of the day.
That There Is One Only God.
“We all believe with the heart, and confess with the mouth, that there is one only simple and spiritual (John 4:24) Being (Ephesians 4:6), which we call God; and that he is eternal (Isaiah 40:28), incomprehensible (Romans 11:33), invisible (Romans 1:20), immutable (Malachi 3:6), infinite (Isaiah 44:6), almighty, perfectly wise (1 Timothy 1:17), just (Jeremiah 12:1), good (Matthew 19:17), and the overflowing fountain of all good (James 1:17, 1 Chronicles 29:10-12).” (The Belgic (or Netherlands) Confession of Faith)
AMEN!
Praise God, from Whom all blessings flow;
Praise Him, all creatures here below;
Praise Him above, ye heavenly host;
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost!
Until we sup again, please remember to take up the armor each day before you move out into the chaos and run the good and Godly race.
